1 Peter 1:1-12 "Words of Encouragement"

The main theme of this book is encouragement. This book is written to a Church that is going through an incredibly difficult season. When we begin to read any new book we need to ask ourselves 3 questions. Who is writing the book, to whom is it written for and why was it written?

Our God is always faithful in every season. Let us be encouraged in that. God chose you first and knew you before the foundation of the earth. He knows everything about us, our faults, ours sins, our weaknesses and still called us. God wants you to be a part of the great mission to seek, serve and save this lost world.

Are we placing our hope in a fading, dead or false hope? Jesus is our living hope, an anchor for our souls. We are heading home to Heaven as we pilgrim through this journey of life on this side of eternity.

Be encouraged and be an encourager.

Luke 10:42 "This One Thing" Part 5

In this section of Scripture, Jesus shows up with His apostles, unannounced, at Martha’s house. Martha, at first, warmly receives them all because Jesus was welcome in her house. Is Jesus welcome in our house? But this is a huge ask and can be viewed from two different angles.

Angle # 1: Jesus just came to my house!

Angle # 2: A whole lot of work just showed up at my door.

Martha soon became frustrated in much serving. The wrong perspective was that Martha thought that she was doing something that was more important than what Jesus was teaching. Intimacy with Jesus is always greater that service for Him. Our devotion to Jesus is always better than what we do for Him.

3 warning signs to remind us that we need to return to the feet of Jesus are:

  1. When the person you are upset with does not even have a name anymore.

  2. When we don’t think that God cares anymore.

  3. When we start telling Jesus what He needs to do.

Let us not be worried and troubled over many things. Only one thing is needed.

Philippians 3:12-13 "This One Thing" Part 4

Despite our circumstances can joy still radiate from our soul?

4 key points of this message are:

  1. Unattained goal

  2. Uncluttered life

  3. Unified effort

  4. Upward call

If our past is preventing us from moving forward in our relationship with Jesus then it is clutter and we need to get rid of it.

Let us run like we have not won, even though the race has already been won by Jesus. In whatever it is we do let it bring glory to God. Press forward in your upward call, the pursuit of Jesus.

John 9:1-34 "This One Thing" Part 3

Priorities are more important than things. The best question is what is the most important.

The word ‘neither’ is a powerful word that shatters our own belief system of expectations of God. See John 9:3 and Joshua 5:13-15 Notice that God does not follow our time line.

The evidence to the existence of God is overwhelming. You have to step out in faith to even consider that God does not exist. The problem has always and will always be the suppression and persecution of the truth. Jesus told us that if they persecute Me, they will persecute you.

Psalm 27:4 "This One Thing" Part 2

In the Bible “this one thing” arises to the top to help us prioritize life among the many distractions. Psalm 27 is written by David, the man after God’s own heart at a challenging time in his life when Saul is in pursuit of David to destroy him. To defeat darkness we need to remember Who is the Light. We have salvation through faith in Jesus. He is our light so whom shall we fear? The Lord is our stronghold. A mighty fortress is our God. David, in Psalm 27 verse 4, is his “this one thing.” Let it be ours also. He can calm our storms with a peace that surpasses all understanding. How do you see God? Useful or beautiful?
