Luke 10:42 "This One Thing" Part 5
In this section of Scripture, Jesus shows up with His apostles, unannounced, at Martha’s house. Martha, at first, warmly receives them all because Jesus was welcome in her house. Is Jesus welcome in our house? But this is a huge ask and can be viewed from two different angles.
Angle # 1: Jesus just came to my house!
Angle # 2: A whole lot of work just showed up at my door.
Martha soon became frustrated in much serving. The wrong perspective was that Martha thought that she was doing something that was more important than what Jesus was teaching. Intimacy with Jesus is always greater that service for Him. Our devotion to Jesus is always better than what we do for Him.
3 warning signs to remind us that we need to return to the feet of Jesus are:
When the person you are upset with does not even have a name anymore.
When we don’t think that God cares anymore.
When we start telling Jesus what He needs to do.
Let us not be worried and troubled over many things. Only one thing is needed.

Psalm 27:4 "This One Thing" Part 2
In the Bible “this one thing” arises to the top to help us prioritize life among the many distractions. Psalm 27 is written by David, the man after God’s own heart at a challenging time in his life when Saul is in pursuit of David to destroy him. To defeat darkness we need to remember Who is the Light. We have salvation through faith in Jesus. He is our light so whom shall we fear? The Lord is our stronghold. A mighty fortress is our God. David, in Psalm 27 verse 4, is his “this one thing.” Let it be ours also. He can calm our storms with a peace that surpasses all understanding. How do you see God? Useful or beautiful?

Hebrews 13:18-25 "Some Things Never Change"
In this world of constant changes, Jesus never changes. Know peace with that. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. All flesh is grass, the grass withers the flower fades but the Word of our God will stand forever.
Prayer should be our focus. Prayer to God is powerful because prayer changes the circumstances around us. Our prayer life should grow as we walk with the Lord. It should not shrink. Only God can equip us for every good work and He will fit us for our journey. Only God is the source of peace. It is a peace that surpasses all understanding. There is no other source. Jesus paid the price in full for all of us and said; “It is finished.”

Hebrews 12 "Run to WIN!!!"
We all have a race to run, a separate course set before us by Jesus Christ . We are not in a race against each other. We are not in competition with each other. The race has been set before each of us according to our own abilities. Since we are in a race, lets run to win!' Key points to remember are:
drop the excess baggage
avoid the snares of sin that will entrap you
keep your eyes fixed on Jesus
resist sin (12:4)
learn to endure the chastening by God since you are now His children
pursue peace with all people
pursue Holiness
deal with your bitterness the right way
watch out for spiritual complacency
we need to obey
embrace grace
let God be God
Chastening is not punishment it is God’s way of correcting our race. It is proof of God’s love for us, proof that we are God’s sons and daughters and proof that we are destined for Holiness.

Hebrews 11:30-40 "Faith Following"
Part 10 in this faith series. Let us now walk in faith in the same examples that have been demonstrated. Key points to remember:
Faith follows God’s lead
Faith follows God’s plan
Faith follows the example of God’s people
Faith always follows. Jesus said follow me, not lead ahead of me. Today, what are your prayers, your challenges, your struggles where faith is now required? With God nothing is impossible. A better resurrection is the reward of faith as we run our race on this side of eternity. The world was not worthy of these great followers of faith . Faithfulness to God is what will be measured not worldly wisdom. Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. Excellent Bible references are located in this week’s Study Guide.
